Everybody loves being by the seaside. We asked you to tell us why access to the coast is important to you and why it's essential that government ensures the creation of a legal coastal route. Below is some feedback from people who enjoy the coast...
If you haven't already, please tell us what the coast means to you. You can also email your MP to ask them to support the legalisation of a coastal route around England.
"It is very frustrating when visiting a beautiful area of the coast walking some distance along a headland or the beach, one finds the way is blocked and the only alternative is to turn inland or to return the way you have come."
"The land is a resource that should be open to all. I feel that given proper supervision and environmental care, that the resource of the coastline should be a national asset that all can enjoy."
"One of my favourite places to relax, unwind and keep fit is coastal paths and beaches"
"Beaches and the coastline should be a resource for the whole community to use and enjoy."
"No one should own the shoreline - it should be free to walk for everyone"
"As an Island nation we are drawn to our lovely coastline. Government should be encouraging people to walk the coastline from a fitness aspect as the obesity rate has escalated."
"This is crucial legislation to open access to a huge percentage of the UK population, of all ages, genders and ethnicity, who engage in the timeless activity of walking. This brings substantial benefits including fitness, reduction in illnesses, reduction in drain on the NHS, promotion of a cheap and invaluable hobby, commercial opportunity, tourism and heritage."

"As a pensioner on a limited income walking is one of the few free forms of activity left to us. Sea air has always been recognised as being beneficial to good health. The coast belongs to all of us and access should not be restricted."
"As an island nation, access to all parts of the coastline is an integral part of what it means to be 'British'."
"I love walking by the sea. I love paddling in the summer. Taking photos. I love the wildness of winter seas. I love walking by the sea, breathing in the lovely salty air. I love the feeling of sand between my toes. I love lying on the beach and reading, or with my eyes closed, listening to the shingle being lapped by the sea. I love swimming in the sea in all weathers. Access to the coast in the UK is really one of my great passions in life"
"I am opposed to the concept of private ownership of coast or wild places. I believe our coast belongs to us all and everyone should have access."
"As I have to 'walk' using my mobility scooter I am even more limited than the average 2 legged walker. Coasts are one of the areas often offering more accessibility to me. It is beautiful down on Hayling Island but the eastern coast has no access for anyone, very frustrating. There is something so restful and peaceful about waves gently lapping against the beach or envigorating about a wild sea crashing on the shingle. As Janet Street Porter once said "Walking keeps me sane"."
"I would like to think that my children (and their children) will be able to enjoy the freedom to walk along the beach. Walks beside the sea are excellent therapy when life gets tough"
"The coast is the place I go to destress, it gives me great pleasure to see and photograph the wildlife along our coastline and I think it should all be open to the British public."
"We live a long way away from the coast. So when we go to the coast we want to be sure we have access. It is very frustrating to plan a walk along the coast and then to find we have to make big detours inland."
