Write to a peer to help protect access to English woodlands
The best way to ensure public access is maintained and enhanced following any sales of Forestry Commission land is to send a letter to the Peers currently debating the Bill at the House of Lords.
- A personalised letter will make a much bigger impact on Peers, so please do send your own reasons for why you want woodland access protected. This could help shape the Bill to ensure woodland access is maintained and improved.
- You can find contact details and suggestions to add to the letter below.

Information about the Public Bodies Bill
- This Bill is currently being debated at the House of Lords. It is an enabling bill, giving powers that have the potential to have a substantially adverse effect on the environment that we love to walk in. Of major concern are the provisions relating to the sale of Forestry Commission land.
- The change in ownership of Forestry land need not be negative, particularly if it enables community groups to take a more active involvement in their local woodland, but it is imperative that everyone’s ability to continue to access and enjoy English woodland is at the forefront of any sale agreement.
