Following the passing of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009, Natural England put together an implementation programme concentrating on five pilot areas in England: Cumbria, Somerset, Kent, Norfolk and East Riding (find out more information about the scheme here).
However the current economic climate means that it is possible this implementation programme could be at risk. East Riding council have already stated it is not a key priority for them at this current time, despite the huge economic benefits a cosatal path will bring to the rural economy.
TAKE ACTION: ask local authorities and Defra not to cut the coastal path
You do not have to live in any of these areas, but if you believe in the importance of a coastal path, please email one or all of the following five councils:
Email Cumbria County Council
Email Somerset County Council
Email Kent County Council
Email Norfolk County Council
Email East Riding Council
