Dear _________

You will be aware that the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 allows for the designation of a continuous route for walkers along the entire coast of England. As a keen walker, and someone who lives in your constituency, I am delighted that work has already begun to improve public access to the coastal land in England.

Therefore, I am dismayed that there has been no recent Government commitment to continue with the establishment of the coastal route beyond the stretches currently being designated (at Weymouth, Somerset, Kent, Cumbria, Norfolk and Durham). The recently published Natural Environment White Paper, which sets out Government’s vision for the natural environment, doesn’t mention the future of coastal access. I am concerned that the Government is not committed to the creation of a route around the English coast. I would like to see a full timetable for implementation announced to show that the Government are following through with the promises made in the coalition agreement.

Improved access to the coast would be extremely popular and will bring enormous benefits, such as (your example here)…..

I ask that you express your support for a full commitment to the England coastal route to the relevant DEFRA Minister, Richard Benyon MP, and pass a copy of this letter to him.
