West Island Way
Kilchattan Bay to Port Bannatyne, Isle of Bute 48km/30 miles The
first waymarked long distance path on a Scottish island is a fairly easy walk
including seashore, moorland, farmland and forest on the attractive Isle of Bute.
The route forms a near-circle at both north and south ends, and with Rothesay at
its central point it can be walked as two fairly lengthy day walks, returning by
bus. Much of the route is along permissive paths that are closed one day a year
in December: contact the ranger service (see below) for details.

Public Transport. Bute can
be reached by Caledonian MacBrayne ferry from Wemyss Bay (rail connection to
Glasgow) to Rothesay and from Colintraive to Rhubodach: both terminals are
