Grid Reference and 999 Concerns
Especially relevant to: Walk Leaders and Members
Posted: 26 April 2011
For Information: The Ramblers have been contacted by a number of Groups who have suffered a delay in an ambulance attending the scene of an incident due to control room staff being unable to interpret grid reference locations. We would like to hear from you if you have experience of this.
Such Groups who have contacted 999 after an incident has taken place have instead been asked for a postcode. Understandably they have provided a grid reference which has not been accepted as a location, leading to confusion and delay in the response of the emergency services. We have also been informed by three other organisations who have experienced similar issues.
If you or your Group have experienced similar problems we would like to hear from. Please contact Karen Inkster, Led Walks Officer on 020 7339 8519 or karen.inkster@ramblers.org.uk.
