Ramblers’ Association supports Get Walking Day
19 May 2008
This year the Ramblers’ Association (RA) is supporting a brand new awareness day.
Get Walking Day on 30 May will highlight the minimum of 30 minutes of physical activity at least 5 times per week recommended by the Department of Health.
Get Walking Day aims to raise awareness amongst people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities about the health benefits of walking.
With the incidence of obesity, heart disease and stroke all increasing, the RA’s message about how regular walking can help people control their weight and lower their risk of heart disease and stroke is timely.
Get Walking Day will also promote awareness of the social and environmental benefits of walking to a national audience.
As part of Get Walking Day, free hints, tips and advice on how people can build regular walking into their lives will be available to download from www.getwalking.org.uk
