Flexigroups

Flexigroups are an easier way to set up and run a Ramblers group, and are a great way of offering a wider range of activities in all Areas. They can be used to run specialist walks programmes and can also be used for practical activities such as route development or foot path maintenance.

Specialist walks can focus on whatever there is a need for locally - shorter walks, dog walks, family walks, photography walks, nature themed walks or pub walks are just a few examples.

Flexigroups run without a committee, bank account, a Constitution or the need for an AGM, so they cut out lots of the administration associated with the constituted group model. Flexigroup activities are covered by Ramblers civil liability insurance, are eligible for a group budget, and are supported by their Ramblers Area.

Flexigroups will also be expected to communicate electronically, and to list their walks on the Group Walks Finder on the Ramblers website to reduce administration costs and to help to promote their activities.
As well as a good way of expanding the activities Areas offer, flexigroups can also offer a way to retain existing Constituted Groups that may be struggling to fill all the necessary committee roles.

The flexigroup toolkit
The flexigroup toolkit contains all the information that an Area or an individual thinking about setting up a flexigroup may need, and also includes a registration form, financial guidance notes, volunteer role descriptions and a flexigroup agreement template.

The toolkit is designed so that all the information is in one place, and each section is available to download individually as not all parts will be relevant to everyone. The flexigroup toolkit is available to view here.

If you would like to find out more about whether a flexigroup could be the right option, or you have any questions then email groups@ramblers.org.uk for more information or contact Gemma Petty, Group Walks Development Officer on 020 7339 8594.
