Tell us who you are!
So we can provide better support, it's important that we know who you are. We therefore ask all Area and Group programme coordinators to register with us. All registered coordinators with email addresses are sent our popular e-newsletter The Leader Column three times a year. This contains important information on national promotions, health and safety, insurance, training and support as well as inspiring and informative ideas and experiences from led walks volunteers. You can view back issues on the Walk Leader page but you will only get a copy by email if you register as a leader or coordinator.

Walk Leader's checklist
A web version of the current checklist is available on the walks leader page; http://www.ramblers.org.uk/Volunteer/AreaGroup/Led+Walks/WalkLeader.htm
The checklist is based on a Ramblers publication that some may be familiar with. Navigation and Leadership was first produced in 1994 as a manual to help individual Walk Leaders and Groups looking to organise training or offer advice. The checklist is largely an abridged version of Navigation and Leadership. If you’ve never seen a copy of the manual it’s likely that somebody in your Group will have one if you ask around, or view the led walks page (link at the top of the page) for an on-line version.
Insurance for leading walks
The 11/12 insurance guide for Areas and Groups, including incident report forms is available here
Welcoming children and vulnerable adults
All Areas and Groups running activities for the wider membership and the public are asked to be aware of our Guidelines for Areas and Groups on Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults, especially if they run targeted activities, for example family walks, walks for people with disabilities or partnership projects with community groups. There is a much shorter and simpler set of guidelines for those walk leaders who rarely encounter people under 18 and vulnerable adults on their walks.
For more about safeguarding in general, see www.ramblers.org.uk/volunteer/safeguarding.
Group Walks Finder
As Programme Co-ordinator you may be responsible for putting walks onto the Group Walks Finder, the Ramblers online system for listing led walks: see www.ramblers.org.uk/walksfinder. For more information on listing your walks on the system see www.ramblers.org.uk/volunteer/groupwalksfinder.
Ramblers festivals and events
Running a themed walk as part of a nationally promoted festival or event is a great way for local activities to benefit from wider publicity and attract more new walkers and potential members. For details of forthcoming events see www.ramblers.org.uk/volunteer/festivals.
Walks template
Using a template will make it easier for you to submit your leaders’ walks to the website, upload them to the Group Walks Finder and to your Group Walks Programme. The Walks Finder helps people who are new to the Ramblers to find walks. Your Group may have a bespoke version of this template.
A5 mono template
An A5 template you may wish to use for your walks programme
A5 mono template (Welsh version)

Ramblers national festivals and events
Participating in festivals and events by including an appropriate walk in your programme is a great way to attract new members and spread the good news about walking. For details of forthcoming Ramblers national festivals and events see www.ramblers.org.uk/volunteer/festivals
