Following the success of last year’s themed walks calendar, I am writing to ask if your group/ area would hold themed walks in 2010.
Firstly a massive thank you to everyone who held themed walks last year. They were incredibly successful in generating publicity, and - I hope – enjoyable on the day too!
Themed walks are one of the best ways the Ramblers has of publicising its walks, because they are interesting and the media like to cover them. There are many dates in the year on which themed walks can be held, ranging from Ramblers’ dates like the Festival of Winter Walks to seasonal dates like Halloween. Themed walks can often be arranged without additional effort - for example, a walk through a bluebell wood in April can be ticked off as a ‘Bluebell Walk’ on the walks finder.
We’d be delighted if you could hold themed walks on some key dates throughout 2010 and (if possible) send us a colourful description of the walks.
A table of suggested themes is attached. Please could you, consulting with your group and walks co-ordinator, choose which themed walks you’d like to participate in. Then, could you send details of your choices, using the forms attached, to ruth.somerville@ramblers.org.uk ** NB it’s vital to send me walks details, so I can promote it in the media ** Lastly, enter the walk onto the walks finder - this has been adapted to fit the themes.

• We do not expect your Group to participate in all of the dates, they are just suggestions.
• If you can only pick two, please choose the Festival of Winter Walks and Get Walking Day. These two are most important for media coverage.
• We do not expect that all 2010 walks are planned yet; we hope that advanced notice will aid your planning.
• You can use themed walks to promote the Ramblers 75th Anniversary throughout 2010.
