The stop over points for the Olympic Torch were announced on the 18th May and are designed to spread the spirit of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games around the nation. The Ramblers would like to nominate volunteers to be part of the torch relay. Natural England wants to invite volunteers to be part of the relay in recognition to their commitment to the natural environment.

With one year to go until the Olympic Flame arrives in the UK, London 2012 has launched the search for 8,000 Torchbearers to take part in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay. They will be individuals whose personal stories will inspire millions of people as the 70-day Relay travels the length and breadth of the UK. Can you think of volunteers who have been outstanding in their work for the Walking Environment? If you can they can be nominated by contacting Ed Wilson, Volunteer Support and Development Officer. Or for further information go to the Olympic Web Pages.

As well as this we would also like to use the opportunity to get more people involved in Get Walking for the Games. Groups are invited to run Get Walking for the Games Walks that are short, easy, accessible walks with a link to the Olympic and Paralympic Games - whether it's passing the venues, using routes such as the new Olympic Greenways in London, connecting to Cultural Olympiad sites and events, visiting training venues, making connections with the Torch relay locations or visiting places linked to Britain's sports heritage. To mark a Get Walking for the Games walk on walks finder please code it as 2012 in the festival box.

If any volunteers are interested in designing Walks for the Games or leading any walks on these dates, please contact Tom Moulton or David Bays in the RA office.
