Specialist groups Short Code changes

Especially relevant to: Area and Group Chairs, Area and Group Secretaries, Group and Area Programme Coordinators. Posted: 29 September 2011 Summary: Due to changes to the internal Group coding systems, some specialist group Short Codes will be changing.

We are currently making some changes to the way that specialist Ramblers Groups are coded on our internal systems. These changes are being made to improve the way that Groups are recorded internally which will help us to service Groups more effectively in both the immediate and longer term. These changes do not affect Groups that have members automatically allocated by postcode.

All Ramblers Groups are allocated a ‘Short Code’ when they are established which is used to identify the Group internally, as well as being used to, amongst other things, identify the Group on the Walks Finder. The Short Code is made up of two letters, which indicates the Area and two numbers, which help us to identify the individual Group.

As a result of these changes, some specialist group Short Codes will be changed from the start of the new financial year. All Group Secretaries of affected Groups will be contacted to inform them of the new Short Code. This change will have no impact on Group members, unless they use the code to log into the Group Walks Finder to register activities.

If your Group Short Code is changed you will need to use the new code when logging in to the Group Walks Finder, but your password will remain the same.

Groups should use their old Short Code on their 2010/11 annual financial return, as we are reporting up to 30th September 2011, before the new codes come into effect.

Membership Cards and Full Member numbers XX-00-1234567

Revised Membership Cards will not be sent as part of this change but will be replaced throughout the course of the year during standard renewal processes. Replacement requests made will have the new Code printed on them however existing membership cards remain valid until their expiry date.
