Thank you to all of the groups that put together walks for “Walk in the Woods Week”.
200 groups and 3500 walkers enjoyed the autumnal colours of woodland at the beginning of October. As well as wandering through woodland, the Ramblers came together with local campaigning groups to rally for access and the Public Forest Estate to remain in Sherwood, Friston and Rendlesham Forests. Special thanks to Paddy Tipping (Vice President), Richard Tyson (Area Access Officer, Suffolk) and Chris Smith (Area Publicity Officer, Sussex) for organising the three rallies.

The Ramblers were keen to take the messages of walkers to the people who were deciding the future of forestry in England. We wrote to all of the members of the Independent Panel on Forestry giving them a Beech sapling tree with special messages from walkers including:
“My wife’s ashes were scattered in local woods and I would like myself and my children and grandchildren to still visit this spot”
“Freedom – How much does that cost? Where can you go with a family for a fun day out for a few pounds to take in the air, to hear the birds, the exercise? Please take care of our heritage.”
“I grew up in an area where we couldn’t play in woods. Do not do it to my son!”
