Walk4Life Day, which is taking place for the second year running on 25 September, is part of the Department of Health’s (DH) Change4Life campaign to encourage families and adults to eat well, move more and live longer, by making small lifestyle changes that add up to big health benefits. It is also being supported by the Welsh Government in Wales.
The event aims to show people that walking is a perfect way to start building up the 150 minutes a week of physical activity recommended for adults. It is largely a media and awareness event and will be receiving national television coverage.
The Ramblers is a supporter of Change4Life and this year we are proud to be taking more of a role in supporting Walk4Life Day. However as the event was agreed at short notice by DH and their media partners, we do not expect Areas and Groups to take part on a widespread basis.
Instead we will be running seven of the ten key televised media events on the day with the support of Ramblers staff and other partners as well as local volunteers from Areas and Groups and Get Walking and health walks projects.
Full details of the events are at www.ramblers.org.uk/walk4life.
The media events are taking place in Birmingham, Cardiff, Durham (Sedgefield), London (Teddington), Manchester, Sheffield and Swindon.
All Ramblers members are warmly welcomed to all the events. If an event is taking place near you, please do turn up and encourage other members to do so -- the more the merrier.
If you would like to run a modest local event at short notice for Walk4Life day, please get in touch with Ramblers main office.
