New bridge success in Staffordshire

Especially relevant to: All volunteers Posted: 28 April 2011 Success story: Campaigning in Staffordshire delivers vital new bridge after 17 years.

The bridge over the Church Eaton Brook on footpath 19, Bradley Parish, in the Stafford Borough was requested 17 years ago. Funding was not available at the time, due to the quoted cost - some £25,000.

Staffordshire Area, with the help of staff at Central Office, ran a long campaign. As a direct result of that pressure funding was made available to build the bridge. This now provides a missing link in a walk from the village of Wheaton Aston to the village of Bradley.

There are a number of lessons for us all here. Firstly, if the value of a project can be properly demonstrated to local decision-makers the money can be found; and secondly, don't give up hope - even the longest-standing problems can be resolved!

Staffordshire Area have provided the photos below, showing the substantial new bridge, in place and open for use.
