Get Walking for the Games

Join us on a series of short, easy led walks linked to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Olympic Stadium, Stratford, under construction.Ramblers exciting Get Walking for the Games project using the energy and inspiration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games to get people walking more is now officially launched!

Two special walks over the London 2012 Open Weekend at the end of July got the project off to a great start. One ran from Windsor to the spectacular rowing venue Dorney Lake and back along the Thames. The other focused on the main Olympic Park in Stratford, East London, and included local waterways as well as good views of several landmark venues. The project has been awarded the coveted London 2012 Inspire Mark.

More about the project

Get Walking for 2012The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games aren't just a festival of elite sport -- they're also a once in a lifetime event giving everyone a great opportunity to get more active, through everyday physical activity such as walking as well as through sport.

To help you get started, the Ramblers is running programmes of short, easy and accessible Get Walking for the Games walks. Each one will have a link to the Games -- whether it's passing the venues, using routes such as the new Olympic Greenways in London, checking out Cultural Olympiad sites and events or visiting places linked to Britain's sports heritage.

Walks will be taking place all over England, not just in London, including some of the lesser-known Olympic venues outside London, the various cities hosting national team training and Cultural Olympiad and "live sites". The walks form a part of the Active Travel Programme being coordinated by the London 2012 team. The project has been awarded the coveted Inspire brand by London 2012 .

Get Walking for the Games will cover the two years leading up to the Games and beyond. Check back here for updated information. If you're a Ramblers volunteer and want to get involved, please contact thomas.moulton@ramblers.org.uk.
