Led Walks

Ramblers volunteers in Edale

Ramblers volunteers across England, Scotland and Wales run a comprehensive programme of led walks -- more than 500 a week, involving around 10,000 walk leaders and attracting around 300,000 participants a year.

The walks programmes are organised through Ramblers' extensive network of around 500 Groups and 50 Areas. Most Groups cover a specific geographical territory and offer a range of walks welcoming all walkers but there are an increasing number of Groups and walks programmes that are more specialised.

There are over 50 Hike Groups for people in their 20s and 30s, as well as Groups for people in their 40s, family walking Groups and Groups and programmes dedicated to short and easy walks. Some Groups run walks aimed at people with disabilities such as visually impaired walkers.

Some led walks are specially promoted to the public -- for example during national events like Get Walking Day, or at local festivals and events -- and some Groups run regular programmes of public walks. Most walks are aimed mainly at Ramblers members, though you're welcome to join two or three walks with a particular Group on a trial basis before being asked to become a member.

As well as the regular led walks programmes we run a number of projects aimed at promoting walking to a wider audience -- see Walking Projects.
