The Ramblers works to make walking accessible to all. We want to do much more to spread the positive message about walking, ensuring that those who do not currently walk very much have access to the pleasures which walking can bring.

Walking projects
England
| We're working with councils, community groups and the health service to find innovative ways of getting people walking regularly, especially people from deprived inner city areas who aren't already active, including children. Projects like Get Walking Keep Walking and our Department of Health-funded Furness Families Walk4Life pilot support independent walking as part of a healthy lifestyle. | Get Walking Day in May is our flagship annual awareness event and an opportunity for people across the country to get out walking. We are working with a wide variety of partners to build this into a major national event. Throughout 2010 we're running a series of Baton Walks to celebrate Ramblers' 75th anniversary. We are also working on plans to promote walking in connection with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. |
Scotland
We're helping to set up new groups aimed at people who now want to move on from health walks and other beginners' projects, and supporting existing volunteers to provide short easy walks. We're also looking at ways to promote walking through the 2014 Commonwealth Games
Wales
 | Our Cerrig Camu/Stepping Stones project, run in conjunction with Walking the way to Health, provides easy, friendly walks to fill the gap between very short health walks and more challenging rural walks. We've also promoting 30 minute walks for health at major events like the Eisteddfod. |
Led walks
Ramblers volunteers across England, Scotland and Wales run a comprehensive programme of led walks -- more than 500 a week, involving around 10,000 walk leaders and attracting around 300,000 participants a year. Many Ramblers Groups offer easy walks, family walks and walks aimed at people with disabilities such as visually impaired walkers.
Information and promotion
We are Britain's leading provider of information about walking and walking opportunities.
Our comprehensive online information includes the Get Walking website at www.getwalking.org with extensive resources and tools to help everyone enjoy the benefits of walking..
Policy and research
Through policy and research, lobbying and awareness raising, we aim to persuade funders, local authorities, the health service and government departments to commit more resources to creating a more civilised and liveable Britain where more people choose to walk.
