Balerno Ramblers in the Lairig Ghru.jpg

Group name: Balerno

This group is a part of Lothian & Borders Area.

Our activities include:
Path maintenance

We are a busy group with walks at weekends, midweek (usually on Wednesdays) and social events. The Balerno Group covers Balerno, Currie and the surrounding area.  Balerno nestles at the foot of the Pentland Hills to the south west of Edinburgh.  A group of us work with Friends of the Pentlands helping with tree planting, drainage schemes, path building and repair.

If any of our walks interest you, please contact us and we'll email you back with details of how to contact the Walk Leader. Please allow a couple of days for us to reply.

Our Meeting Point is usually Pentland View Car Park (PVCP) NT180677 off Lanark Road West (A70) in Currie.  Travelling west from Edinburgh the car park is on the right just past Curriehill Road and beside Scotmid.  Parking is currently free and not time-limited.  It can be reached by Lothian 44/44A bus Wallyford/Edinburgh/Balerno or 45 (nearby) QMUC/Edinburgh/Riccarton Park & Ride.  We usually meet at 08:50 for a 09:00 start unless otherwise indicated.

Drivers will appreciate a 'Passenger Donation' (PD) to help cover travel costs (see walk descriptions).  The walk leader will collect donations and dispense them equally among all participating drivers, regardless of the number of passengers in their car.  Independent drivers who join the walk at the start point are not usually included in the scheme.

Most of our weekend walks operate on a ‘just turn up’ (JTU) system.  If you need to contact the Walk Leader first, the walk description will state this.

We regret no dogs are allowed on our walks.

Midweek walks:  please contact M Timmins (0131 449 4525) or A Blyth (0131 629 3644) for details.

Balerno Walk Leaders can borrow books (contact E Imrie 0131 449 2114) or OS maps (contact E Scroggie 0131 441 1666) from the Group library.

For general enquiries contact our chair, M Granger (0131 441 5355) or our secretary, H Clark (0131 334 3717).

We have a mailing list which you are welcome to join by clicking here to send an email to register on the list. You will then receive emails with information on forthcoming walks and other appropriate issues.
