Aviation: how you can help

There are many local groups campaigning against airport development in their area. A list of groups is available from AirportWatch website. If you live in an area affected by the proposals contact them and find out how you can become more involved.

Write to your MP or the Department of Transport and ask for a rethink of the government's airport expansion policy. Explain that aviation's unfair tax breaks are leading to a deficit of over £16bn a year between the money that arrives and leaves the country because of flying. Rapid growth in air travel threatens to undermine all other efforts to tackle climate change and pollution.

There are often alternatives to flying, especially within the United Kingdom and Europe. Improved services between London and major UK cities now make train travel a faster, more comfortable and attractive option than flying. We continue to campaign for the introduction of a National Railcard scheme to provide further incentives for rail travel.
