Climate Change

The effects of climate change - rising sea levels, changing temperatures and extreme weather conditions threaten the beauty of our countryside and the ability of walkers to enjoy it.

The Ramblers' Association agrees with the government that climate change is the most pressing environmental problem facing us today. We all have a role to play in tackling its effects by reducing emissions of carbon dioxide.

We have responded to the government's proposals for cutting greenhouse gases in its recent draft Climate Change Bill (pdf).

Walking is the most environmentally-friendly method of transport, exercise and recreation. Learn more about walking.

We have called on the European Commission (pdf) to include walking as part of its Climate Change Programme.

Over 90,000 people support the 'I Count' campaign, pledging to take personal action and call on the government to play its part in the challenge.
