The Ramblers has at its heart the promotion of one the most important forms of sustainable transport - walking.
Walking is free, needs no special equipment, and is great for the environment.
With 80% of journeys under one mile made on foot and 77% of people walking regularly for pleasure - walking is clearly very popular.
27% of households do not have access to a car.
The Ramblers works to promote everyday local walking for transport, health and leisure.
The Ramblers' strongly encourages its own volunteers to arrange walks which are open to all and can be reached using public transport. We have regional transport officers who can help members find the best methods of public transport in their area. Contact the Countryside team at central office to find out who your nearest one is.
Transport in Britain is a huge issue; we actively support the development, and use of sustainable transport, working work with other organisations to make our voice more powerful.
