Walkers in a valley with dry grass alongside the path.

We are a friendly and sociable group of local people who enjoy walking in the beautiful countryside and hills of the Scottish Borders. We take our name from the iconic Eildon hills above Melrose, but our members come from across the Borders.

Our weekend walks range from leisurely, low level walks through longer, but moderate, walks to strenuous hill walks. We walk in all parts of the Scottish Borders, and occasionally in the Lothians and Northumberland.  We also offer shorter, easier walks on the first Tuesday of each month. Our leaders can advise you about the clothing, equipment and supplies you will need, and on the suitability for you of specific walks.

We offer a warm welcome to members of other Ramblers groups, and to non-members who want to sample 2-3 walks to try us out. We walk for fitness and to enjoy the scenery, history and natural environment of the Borders, but also to make and catch up with friends. Whenever possible, our walks finish with a visit to a nearby cafe.

As we often walk in fields or hillsides where animals graze or ground birds nest, we cannot allow dogs on our walks. However, walkers who need an assistance dog can ask walk leaders if any walk is suitable for them.

Walking in the Scottish Borders

The Borders offer a varied landscape, rugged hills and moorland, lonely valleys and lochs, rich farmland, delightful woodlands and peaceful riversides. We offer favourite walks which our members love, but our leaders are always looking for new routes, new vistas and new points of interest.

Come with us and enjoy the wildlife of the Borders, seal pups on the Berwickshire coast, red squirrels in remote woodlands, herons and oystercatchers on the rivers, and fleeting glimpses of deer, hares and, if we're lucky, an eagle.

Learn about the history of our ancient landscape from prehistoric stone circles and hillforts through Roman camps and roads, and ancient castles and churches, to the traces of older, rural industries, abandoned railways and our living, former textile towns.

There's geology, too, on our coast, riverbanks, and rocky hillsides, and, for those who want a real challenge, we have three Corbetts and over 30 Donalds in or on the edge of the Borders. Our aim is to offer something for everyone.

In addition to our weekly walks, our members enjoy an away weekend every year, with a range of walks across three days, in interesting areas of Scotland or northern England. This year's away weekend is in late August at Arrochar in Argyll.

You can find us on our Facebook page, and see our photographs and reports from the walks we have done, along with information about the coming weekly walk. If you want good company, exercise and interest in the Borders landscape, come and join us!
