Saturday, 28 April 2018 (Group: Capital Walkers)
Start time 10:10
18 miles / 29 km
Travel: Take the 08:45 from Waterloo arrives Liss at 10:06. Buy return to Liss. The leader is coming from Reading, so will join the train at Guildford. Trains returning to London from Haslemere are at least every ½ hour.
A stunning walk following parts of the Serpents Trail long distance path - opened by Chris Packham in 2005: https://www.ldwa.org.uk/ldp/members/show_path.php?path_name=Serpent+Trail.
The walk has two climbs to view points, the second being The Temple of the Winds, where the views are amazing. Al Fresco Lunch will be at the top of the first climb, at Woolbeding Common: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/woolbeding-countryside.
There will be a pub stop early afternoon, at The Duke of Cumberland Arms in Henley for a quick drink (after about 11 miles, where you could get a taxi back to Haslemere if needed - cost about £15). There is a Tesco in Liss where you can buy lunch if you like. Pub visit opposite Haslemere station at the end. Likely arriving in Haslemere after 6pm - so a full day's walking
Terrain: Hilly, footpaths, woods, remote countryside
