This is an extended, and hence very strenuous walk, using footpaths, farm tracks, open moorland and Cut Gate (the pack horse route to North America) and back by the side of the reservoir, that may well feel longer than the allotted 12 miles. However, good weather will afford panoramic views and make the difficult moorland section so worthwhile. NB: there is no pub/cafe stop on route, but a choice at the end.
