Meet HOLMWOOD Station, Surrey, 9.32 (Victoria 8.31, Clapham Junction 8.37). A strenuous linear walk of about 19 miles to Godalming, mainly along the Greensand Way. Via Leith , Holmbury and Pitch Hills (pub. lunch at The Windmill), then Reynards Hill, Winterfold Hill, Shamley Green and Thorncombe Street. The leader needs to reserve a table three weeks in advance, so please indicate participation by mid-August. Stations are on different lines but a return ticket to Godalming should suffice.

Meet GORING & STREATLEY station, Oxfordshire, 9.35 (Paddington 8.30, change Reading 9.21). A strenuous but rewarding circular walk of about 21 miles through the lush and gently rolling countryside of the western Chilterns. Partly along the Chiltern Way, the route takes in Gutteridge’s Wood, Kingwood Common, Witheridge Hill (lunch at The Rising Sun), Ipsden Heath and Woodcote.

Meet KNOCKHOLT station, Kent, 9.48 (Charing Cross 9.06, Grove Park 9.27). A linear walk of about 17 miles to Woldingham via Hornes Green, Tatsfield (lunch) and Chelsfield. Lunch is after 9½ miles so we will have a short break at Knockholt Village. Knockholt is in Travelcard zone 6 so you will need a day pass plus a single ticket from Woldingham to the edge of zone (Upper Warlingham).

Meet WIMBLEDON PARK Underground station, SW19 8AA, 10.30 (District Line). A linear walk of about 4 miles (2½ hours) at an easy pace to Wandsworth Town (National Rail). Following last year’s Wandle Wander we’ll meander along the lower section of the river via King George’s Park to rapidly changing Wandsworth, with a glimpse of the Thames.

Meet NORTH FAMBRIDGE station, Essex, 9.50 (Liverpool Street 8.47, Stratford 8.54). A linear walk of about 18 miles at a brisk pace, but no hills of note, to Southminster, via Dengie and the River Blackwater. The walk includes a stretch along the River Blackwater, a view of the Petrified Forest, a disused church dating back to the 14th century and plenty of lovely scenery and open landscapes. Lunch at The Star Inn, Steeple. Buy a return ticket to Southminster.
