Dickens first knew Southwark in his childhood when his father, John, was incarcerated in Marshalsea Prison. The area is mentioned in several of his novels with the walk covering the stretch between Monument down to Borough and will include a visit to the famous George Coaching Inn dating from 1677 for a bite to eat and drink as well as the Monument, London Bridge, Southwark Cathedral, Borough Market, St. Thomas's Church etc.
