Wednesday, 11 October 2017 (Group: West London)
Start time 10:45
7.5 miles / 12.1 km
(Estimated finish time: 16:00)
A walk to officially 'open' the Kissing Gate at Chartridge which West London Group has donated in memory of Ken Royce, who died in 2013 and for decades led walks such as this in the area.
The outward walk is 3.5 miles, with a steady ascent out of Great Missenden, passing Ballinger Grove and Pednor Bottom and then a short, but steep climb up the fields to reach Ken's Kissing Gate. The Bell at Chartridge is 10 minutes further on. In view of possible numbers a picnic nearby is suggested, but anyone wanting to eat in the pub should book a place with the leader by 7 October by email (use 'contact' link). A bus departs at 2.27 from near the pub to Chesham for any who don't want to walk back. Return walk is 4 miles via Capps Lane and Lee Common to Great Missenden. Approx 12 stiles and can be muddy after wet weather. Mobile on the day only 07713 025494.
Depart Marylebone 9.57, Harrow-on-the-Hill 10.09, arrive Great Missenden 10.39. Car park in Link Road (5 mins from station).
