Step Three: Making a Claim
Once you’ve found a forgotten path and gathered evidence to prove it, you need to make an application to the surveying authority (i.e. the county council or unitary authority for the area) to have the path added to the definitive map.
If the surveying authority thinks your application supports a 'reasonable allegation' that the right of way exists, it will make a Definitive Map Modification Order (DMMO). Find out more about how to apply for a DMMO.
Forgotten Path volunteers often carry on searching for other paths and collecting evidence for these while they are waiting to hear the outcome of claims already submitted.
