Payroll Giving

Payroll Giving is hassle free and helps us make the most out of your donation.

Many employers across the UK operate a scheme known as Payroll Giving (sometimes called Give As You Earn). This is a really simple way of supporting the Ramblers, while also helping us get the most out of your donation.

As the donation comes out of your salary before you are taxed, we also receive the tax that you would have paid for the amount – meaning it costs you less! For example, if you wanted to make a donation of £10, it would only cost you £8 if you are a standard rate taxpayer – and higher rate tax payers would pay even less.

Donating to the Ramblers through your payroll provides a valuable steady income stream to us, helping us to make long-term plans. This means we can budget more effectively, helping us achieve more of our goals to protect Britain’s footpaths and promote walking.

Why should I consider payroll giving?

Payroll Giving is really easy to set up, manage and control. Your employer handles the administration and processing, and your donation is deducted directly from your salary, meaning that you can concentrate on more enjoyable things – like walking! It’s easy to change the amount you give, giving you flexibility too.

Many employers will match your donation, meaning we receive even more at absolutely no extra cost to you. These extra funds are invaluable in helping us carry out our work and really do make a difference.

What’s more, if you are a higher rate taxpayer, payroll giving really makes your money go further. 40% tax payers can donate £10 at a cost of just £6, making payroll giving an extremely efficient way to give. In fact, payroll giving is the only way that we automatically receive all the tax from a donation, making it even more effective than Gift Aid.

Most payroll giving agencies will let you donate anonymously, if you’d prefer to give in that way.

How do I do it?

You’ll need to find out from your employer if they already have a scheme set up. If your employer already runs a Payroll Giving (sometimes known as “Give As You Earn”) scheme then all you need to do is let your payroll department know that you’d like to take part.

If your employer doesn’t already run a Payroll Giving scheme, ask them to set one up! It’s a great way for all employees to give to charity in a really simple and easy way. A list of payroll giving agencies can be found here.
