Introduction

Below is a guide to the application process to become a trustee. Information about the role of a trustee and the skills and experience we are looking for can be found here.

Step 1: Check to see if you meet the criteria

A candidate for the chair or an ordinary member vacancy must have been an individual member of the Ramblers for at least 12 consecutive months as of 24 February 2018.

A candidate for the honorary treasurer vacancy must be an individual member on 7 April 2018.

You do not have to be active within your local area or group or part of any local committee to stand for election.


Step 2: Complete the nominations form

You will need to be nominated by three people who have been members for at least the last 3 years (on 24 February 2018).

A member may nominate only one candidate for election to the board of trustees.

Step 3: Complete a 500 word supporting statement

Please provide a statement of not more than 500 words in support of your application to join the board of trustees.

You are invited to use the statement to set out your case to potential voters, outlining your relevant experience gained within and outside the Ramblers, including what you believe you can bring to the board of trustees. You may wish to take into account those areas set out in the role descriptions where the board has identified a need to strengthen its expertise and skills.

We also ask you to submit a recent head and shoulders photo.


Step 4: Send your completed application to us

The deadline for receipt of nominations Saturday, 24 February 2018.

Following the closing date, all nominations received will be reviewed by the general council team to ensure that both candidates and nominators meet the eligibility criteria, and that the nomination was received in time.

Step 5: Elections

If your nomination is valid, your name, supporting statement and photo will go forward to appear in the election papers for General Council.

You will be invited to attend General Council in April 2018, where the election takes place, and we will send you all the information you need about how the election process will work, and provide support at the meeting itself.
