In England, no one is ever more than 70 miles from the coast so it’s no wonder that everyone has memories from the seaside, a favourite bit of coastline or a favourite coastal walk. To celebrate, this summer we are toasting the coast – join us and tell us why you love the coast!
It won’t just be walkers that will benefit from this landmark project; it is a legacy for the entire nation. With a coast path open in Wales, and the right of access to the coast in Scotland, the England Coast Path will be the final piece in connecting the entire British coastline.
Your toast can be anything that celebrates the coast across Great Britain – Share a memory from the coast, or a picture of your favourite view. Tell us why you love the coast, or why you’re excited for the coast path to open. Have you got a favourite coastal walk or somewhere you’d love to walk someday?
Early magical memory of my time at university – feeling we couldn’t afford to pay to go to the town’s Bonfire Night fireworks, about 10 of us climbed up Constitution Hill in the dark and stayed up late watching the town from above. We hadn’t expected it, but we could see fireworks displays right round the coast, in other towns and villages like Aberaeron, New Quay, Aberarth, Tywyn – a sudden sense of being interconnected with so many people along the coast all experiencing the same events. It really made us feel that we wanted to see those places and explore the Welsh coast; I think that might be what has caused my obsession with it.
A toast can come in any format – Share a video like the one above, a short written message, or make your toast in the form of a poem. If you want to share more detail you can write a blog post, or put together a walking route that others can use. Your toast can be as simple as you want it to be – start by sharing a photo with us on Facebook, and maybe you’ll be inspired to visit the coast this summer and record a video telling us why you love the coast.
Send us your toast on Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #ToastTheCoast, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
