In December 2015, we began a relationship with the players of People’s Postcode Lottery. With their generous support, last September we launched our biggest ever walking festival, Walk About, which got the nation on their feet. An amazing 1,827 group led walks took place all around Britain. We held special walking events in Swindon, Port Talbot and Balloch, with group walks on offer throughout the day, as well as free self-guided routes, entertainment, live music and games for all the family.
To help get people started and keep them motivated, we introduced a free online tracker, which allows participants to log their walking activity. Designed to suit both the seasoned walker and someone taking their first steps, there are lots of badges and rewards for walking regularly, completing long distances and reaching particular milestones. The tracker has been hugely popular and on this page you can see how many miles and calories participants have accumulated with Walk About.
This year, we are thrilled to be extending our relationship with players with an additional award of £450,000, to help us in our mission to get everyone, everywhere enjoying walking. We will build on the success of Walk About, which will become an annual event from 2018. We’ll also be making our Festival of Winter Walks bigger and better than ever.
Joining forces with players of People’s Postcode Lottery has already inspired people to take their first steps and encouraged people to explore the best of Britain on foot. We look forward to continuing this work, so that together, we can create happier, healthier communities.
Ramblers Chief Executive Vanessa Griffiths said, “We are very thankful to all players of People’s Postcode Lottery. With players support, we will provide even more opportunities to get the nation on its feet and enjoy the many benefits walking brings.”
Players of People’s Postcode Lottery Clara Govier said “We are delighted that with the players additional support the Ramblers can expand the places we all love to walk, and together, we will provide more opportunities to get communities walking and the many benefits it brings.”
Players of People’s Postcode Lottery play with their postcodes to win cash prizes while raising money for charities and good causes across Great Britain and internationally. A minimum of 31% of the ticket price goes to supporting charities including the Ramblers.
The Ramblers operates its own society lottery licensed and regulated by the Gambling Commission. The lottery is promoted and managed by People's Postcode Lottery. You can find out more here.
