This walk heads starts with a visit to Langley Wood where the footpaths are now roped off in order to protect the bluebells. We cross the tree planting which makes up part of the new Heartwood forest. We then cross over the railway line passing through Cheapside Farm and entering the PYO fruit farm. Later, on leaving Batch Wood, we pick up the Hertfordshire Way heading towards Childwick Bury.
At Childwick Bury we past the home of the film director Stanley Kubrick, who died in 1999 and is interred in the grounds. We pick up Mud Lane which takes us to Ayres End and then on to the start of Nomansland Common were we re-enter Heartwood Forest, crossing the wild flower meadows back to the car park.
Starting point of the walk: Heartwood Forest Car Park, Sandridge, AL4 9DQ. The postcode is for Tara Retreat which is the nearest postcode for the entrance to the car park.
At the end of the walk there will be an opportunity for refreshment at the Queens Head, which is a five minute walk from the Heartwood car park.
