Detling to Lenham
Saturday, 20 May 2017
Start time: 10:05
(Estimated finish time: 16:30)
Moderate 12.1 miles / 19.5 km
From Bearstead station the link to the North Downs Way ascends northwards to Detling where the first half of the walk soon passes the ruins of Thurnham Castle and includes several long ascents and descents with steps along the ridge to Hollingbourne (half-way point). Bring picnic lunch but hopefully time for a short drink stop at the 13th century pub 'The Dirty Habit', previously called the 'Pilgrim's Rest'. The second half is easier walking at a lower level on the Pilgrim's Way to Lenham. Good views. Moderate pace to brisker pace on easier second half of walk. Mobile on the day only: 07713 025494.
Depart Victoria 8.52, arrive Bearsted 10.02.
