Essex Borderlands: Upminster to Purfleet
Saturday, 25 February 2017
Start time: 9:30
(Estimated finish time: 17:45)
Moderate 15 miles / 24.1 km
A 15 mile linear walk from Upminster, following the London Loop Pathway. After crossing Upminster parklands the route follows the River Ingrebourne through Hornchurch Country Park with its mature woodlands, glades and meadows. We follow the river north east to south west as it heads towards Rainham Creek, where it reaches the Thames. The second part of the walk will be along the Thames at Rainham. We will straddle the boundary between Essex and London as we walk across Rainahm marshes passing the Second World War concrete Barges (used to support the D Day Landings) and the RSPB Visitors Centre before reaching our final destination at Purfleet.
