This will be a joint walk with members of 'Hike on Lancashire' who are cordially invited to join us; hopefully we shall experience similar sunny weather to when TaH members joined them on their walk from Grassington in March!
Starting at Ilkley Railway Station we make our way to Riverside Gardens and thence to the official start of the Dalesway at Old Bridge. We then follow the Dalesway route upstream along the River Wharfe to Addingham and thence Bolton Bridge, with a lunch stop above Lob Wood. When we did this walk at this time last year Lob Wood itself was resplendant with a fabulous display of Bluebells - cross fingers for the same this year! We return to Addingham via pastures and a golf course and thence tackle a stiff climb up to Rombalds Moor, where we take the lower moorland route back to Ilkley via Swastika Stone and Heber’s Ghyll.
The walk is likely to take about 6½ - 7 hours allowing for a stop or two.
Upon returning to Ilkley, I intend to stay for food and (several) drinks at Bar T’at – hence I shall be catching the train rather than driving! Trains back to Leeds run every half hour approx. until 23.18 (arr. 23.50).
Getting to Ilkley: Catch the 10:04 train from Leeds to arrive in Ilkley at 10:31. You can also catch the X84 bus from Leeds bus station (dep. 09:30) that calls at Headingley, Bramhope, Otley and Burley en route.
Those of you wishing to drive can park in the nearby West Street car park, or free parking may be available along Riverside Gardens.
Ilkley Railway Station – Bus Station is adjacent.
