New Horsell Common Walk
Saturday, 24 June 2017
Start time: 10:00
Leisurely 7.5 miles / 12.1 km
Meet at the rear of Staines Leisure Centre at 9.30am (there is normally plenty of free adjacent car parking at the end of Burges Way on Saturdays) for a car transfer to Horsell Common. The start point is at the re-furbished car park on the right of Monument Road (second exit off the large roundabout after McLaren's on the A320) - last time this walk was very popular so, if required, there is an additional free car park 400 yards further down Monument Road on the left just after the new Muslim Memorial cemetery but before the canal bridge (we walk through this car park at 10.15am). We continue for a short while along the Basingstoke Canal to access another area of Horsell Common where we will have a coffee stop at the new Community Cafe on Heather Farm and possibly a short jaunt around the walkways within the surrounding nature reserve wetlands, before continuing across Horsell Common to our lunch, then through the holly woodland to our starting point. This is a totally flat walk on good paths throughout. I have arranged for a reserved separate room at the Bleak House Sands pub for lunch.
