Start time: 10:30
(Estimated finish time: 14:00)
Easy 9 miles / 14.5 km
Details : We will follow the Irwell Sculpture Trail between Bury and Rawtenstall passing through Burrs Country Park and Ramsbottom along the way. We will return to Bury on the East Lancashire railway. The walk is relatively easy with the odd climb here and there. The path is likely to be muddy in places so boots are advised. The walk also coincides with the Ramsbottom chocolate festival so we have a quick stop there around lunchtime.
The train fare is £7.70 but Ramblers members can travel at the concessionary fare of £6.90.
Directions : From North and South, leave the M66 at junction 2 and follow the A58 into Bury. Keep following the A58 on the ring road around the town centre following the brown signs for the ELR. After you have passed The Rock and Bury Market you pass through several sets of traffic lights and then you come to the junction with Bolton Street where you turn right still following the brown signs for the ELR. Once on Bolton Street there are several car parks with one at the side of the station. There is a charge for parking on Sunday but it should be a small flat rate for all day.
Meeting Place : Outside Bury Bolton Street station
