This is a circular walk
This hill walk starts from Llanfrynach and climbs steadily to reach
Cefn y Bryn. It then heads for the spectacular escarpment which eventually leads to Fan y Big. We then climb Cribyn and Pen y Fan before steeply descending to the north. The outlier of Allt Ddu is climbed before the route descends to a minor road. The low level return via Cantref gives us views back up to the high ground where we have spent much of the day. The walk has a long initial ascent and two subsequent steep climbs and is suitable for people with hill walking experience and a tolerance for the varied weather conditions that are often a feature of the Beacons.
Give us a try!
This is one of hundreds of Ramblers group walks for all ages and abilities every week - all led by our experienced walk leaders.
You’re welcome to join us on any of our walks to see if the Ramblers is for you. Then, once you’ve enjoyed the views, fun, exhilaration and good company, it’s just a case of becoming a member.
Do make sure you're fit enough and have the right footwear and clothing for the walk you want to do, though. You can contact the group or leader if in doubt.
