Strenuous 15 miles / 24.1 km
Circular. We skirt the old priory grounds at Southover and follow the foot of the South Downs to Southease via Ilford. We then walk up onto the downs through the secluded, picturesque village of Telscombe and descend to the Sussex coastline at Saltdean. Lunch stop overlooking the English Channel at the 'White Cliffs Cafe'. We return to Lewes Station via Castle Hill National Nature Reserve, hard to believe this tranquil spot is on the edge of Brighton, and pass the white clapperboard windmill at Kingston. Train from Victoria at 08:47, calling at Clapham Junction at 08:54 and East Croydon at 09:06. Check trains the day before. Buy return ticket to Lewes.
