Meeting time: 8:00
Start time: 9:50
(Estimated finish time: 15:45)
Strenuous 11 miles / 17.7 km
Jean Davies will lead Sunday's
11 mile walk, starting from Lud's Church car park, near Buxton.
The walk is 11 miles in a lovely interesting area of the Peak District which includes Staffordshire, Cheshire and possibly Derbyshire.
We visit Lud's church a natural cleft over 15m high in places and over 100m long and only a couple of meters wide. It is said that it was almost certainly used as a place of worship by lollards in the15th century.
We continue on a good path through heather moorland passing the Hanging Stone. No hangings!! Possibly so named because of its shape.
Our coffee stop is at the Wincle Brewery where they sell coffee, ice creams and oh! of course beer. (please note we are not half way yet.)
Our aim is to continue on, reaching heather Moorland to a steady climb up the, so called, Matterhorn of Cheshire named Shutlingsloe 506m. Taking in the views, maybe a lunch stop,
Walking along the wide ridge making a steady decent to the Crag inn,
our pub stop.
From here it is a steady three miles back to the car park.

We are staying in a hut by the Roaches near Upper Hulme.
The accommodation is basic, there are two bedrooms one sleeps four on a sleeping platform, (shared mattress) the other sleeps twelve two tier bunk also sleeping platform.
Sleeping bags, liners and pillows needed. It is an iconic place to stay built into the cliffs, cave like!! Not for the faint hearted!!
I have asked the people who I thought were brave enough to give it a go.
If any one else went it would also mean that it would be mixed
(male female) sharing
sleeping platform beds.
Should anyone else wish to go and maybe try the Hen Cloud B&B the telephone no. is 01538 300086 ST13 8TZ near Upper Hulme quite close to where we are staying.
