The Wye Valley and Goodrich Castle
Saturday, 23 September 2017
Start time: 10:30
(Estimated finish time: 14:45)
Moderate 7.5 miles / 12.1 km
Join us for walk along the River Wye to the village of Goodrich where we will visit the Castle for refreshments and fine views. From the castle we walk through the village visiting the Church and passing grazing alpacas, before a short climb up Coppett hill which should provide fantastic views of the Herefordshire countryside and Welsh mountains in the distance.
We return to our walk starting point at YHA Wye Valley at Welsh Bicknor where the walk will end with more refreshments.
This walk is part of a TBR weekend away but has been scheduled to enable day-walkers to travel from Cardiff and elsewhere in time for the walk start. Please note the walk leader will NOT be at the group's normal meeting point in Pontcanna, Cardiff.
The walk will start at YHA Wye Valley in Welsh Bicknor.
From the A40 from Monmouth to Ross on Wye, turn left signposted Goodrich. In Goodrich village (post code HR9 6HX), turn right opposite Jolly's stores signposted Courtfield/Welsh Bicknor. Follow the single track road for appx 1.5 miles, crossing the cattle grid and going through the meadow, and when the road splits, take the right hand track. The track down to the hostel is narrow and steep with a hairpin bend, not suitable for larger vehicles. Drive with caution as the road surface is uneven.
