Strenuous 14 miles / 22.5 km
Travel: Take the 8:47 from Victoria to Lewes and change trains here for the 09:57 to Seaford. Arriving at Seaford at 10:14. Buy a return ticket to Eastbourne and a single from Lewes to Seaford.
A dramatic coastal walk from Seaford to Eastbourne along the cliff tops affording spectacular views of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head. The walk forms part of the South Down's way and will involve approximately seven hours of walking plus time for short breaks. Good walking boots needed for a walk with a lot of climbing and descending. Bring walking poles, sun cream, hat and rain gear. Packed lunch essential for picnic on the tops. Short stop at Exceat before lunch and Birling Gap in the afternoon for tea and ice cream. Possible fish and chip stop on the beach at the end (optional).
Terrain: Undulating with steep ascents and descents. Good level of fitness needed.
Drop-out points: Exceat (3.9 miles). Birling Gap (8 miles) although you need to walk to East Dean which is about a mile from here to catch the 12X bus to Eastbourne
