23rd Sept 2017, Start at 10.30 for a Moderate. 10 Miles.
Gritstone Trail, Congleton Edge, Nick i' th' Hill, Biddulph, Shepherds Cross, Overton, Bosley Cloud.
Directions from Macclesfield :- Go South on the A523 Leak Rd to 'turn Right' at Bosley Crossroads / Traffic Lights onto the A54 towards Congleton. Continue over two bridges, under a rail bridge, over another 2 bridges to 'turn left' after the 'The Robin Hood Pub' onto 'Spink Lane' passing Buglawton School then over the rail-bridge 'turn left' at the T Junction then immediately 'Right at the Chapel', drive on for 1100 Mtrs to the C.P. on the left.
The first phase: We start over farmland for a few miles and then a short distance along the Biddulph Valley Way (a former railway linking Biddulp with Congleton)
We turn off this track to cross the A527 onto Congleton Edge along to Nick i'th' Hill. We descend here to go through Higher Whitemoor Fm and cross over the and along the A527 turning South for a few hundred mtrs.
We start the second phase by crossing Biddulph Brook, East up to Biddulph Old Hall. and farm onto Overton Rd to go Nth, Passing 'Shepherds Cross' (An ancient Monument used by Pilgrims on their way to York)
We then continue Nth across farmland to Overton Hall and our target of Bosley Cloud ahead of us. We turn East here for a half Km then turn Nth again for a half Km to Dial Lane and likewise to Gosberryhole Lane.
Our third Phase climbs gently up to The Cloud summit for a fabulous reward of 360 degree views to many places such as North to Shutlingsloe, and beyond, East to the Roaches, South To Rudyard Lake, West towards Chester and South West to the Shropshire Hills.
Finally we enjoy an easy descent from the Cloud and return to Timbersbrook.
