Moderate 10.5 miles / 16.9 km
A question I am regularly asked on walks is “Am I a founding member?” For which I tell people no as the group was formed in 2004 and my first walk was in November 2007, actually 18th November 2007 so with this being my 10th anniversary of my very first walk and with the kind permission of my very first walk leader John Ireland (my very first words to John was “Are you MAD?”) I am nicking his walk from the day ten years ago for a trip down memory lane.
I do wonder at times why I am still around…..oh, hang on a minute I do know it is because of the good walks, good pubs but most importantly it is because of you….the good like-minded people you meet on the walks, the laughs you have with people and the miserable days when it is teeming down with rain but it is all made worthwhile because of the people. The friends and memories that form will last a life time. Actually there is one phrase to sum this group up and that is “It’s a way of life”. So please feel free if you want to join me on a trip down memory lane, the only thing I can’t promise is the snow angels from 10 years ago….sorry.
So the walk starts from Todmorden railway station and a climb out of Todmorden up to the Pennine Way followed by undulating terrain across to Stoodley Pike from there we start our descent back into the valley where we join the Rochdale canal back into Todmorden for a well-deserved pint or two.
