We follow the towpath of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal into Stalybridge then leave the town through Eastwood Nature Reserve and continue on field paths to Matley. The walk passes via Higher Matley Hall and skirts around the eastern side of Harrop Edge to cross the A6018 near Roe Cross. A permissive path is then followed up onto the moor to reach the trig point on Wild Bank Hill (which is an excellent view point). A good permissive path is followed over Hollingworthall Moor to reach Higher Swineshaw Reservoir. From here it is a long gradual descent on a good track and crossing the dam at Walkerwood Reservoir back to the cars. (likely to be muddy in parts between Eastwood Nature Reserve and Harrop Edge). Bring packed lunch
Grove Road, Millbrook, Stalybridge. (park opposite line of modern houses).
