Strenuous 9 miles / 14.5 km
From the car park we stay flat initially overlooking Thirlmere then start to gain height following a stream before the final steep section to Dollywaggon pike. Then it's across the plateau to Helvellyn joining walkers, mountain bikers, fell runners, dogs and tourists all trying out the nation's favoutite walk ( according to ITV anyway).
We descend via Lowerman and Browncove crags which is a stepped path. The walk may be done in reverse depending on conditions.
Ascent 3300 ft.
Swirls car park , on the A591 Windermere to Keswick rd. There are toilets. Pay machine out of order. Layby's are also nearby
