Circular from Miller's Dale via Chee Dale and Monk's Dale
Sunday, 17 June 2018
Start time: 10:00
(Estimated finish time: 15:30)
Moderate 10 miles / 16.1 km
Summer version of a walk similar to the one that I led in January. This time though we will start at Miller's Dale and rather than follow the Monsal trail we will follow the path that winds along the river through the scenic Chee Dale, up and over the hill to Wormhill and Hargatehall, then come back via Peter Dale and the narrow and somewhat other-worldly Monk's Dale.
**Please note that the path through Chee Dale is narrow and awkward at times, with a bit of scrabbling over rocks, and two sets of stepping stones (albeit very solidly made and easy stepping stones). The path through Monk's Dale is very uneven and rocky and requires ducking under or over the odd fallen tree or branch. This is NOT a walk for novices or dogs - and please be sure to wear solid footwear. If the walk looks like being popular I will probably limit it to 20 people.
** Please note the change in start location from what was originally posted**
Miller's Dale Carpark
This is the carpark at Miller's Dale station (now defunct), right on the Monsal trail. Look for the signpost to Wormhill off the B6049 at Miller's Dale. Go steeply uphill under the bridge and turn left in to the carpark. It's not hard to spot.
Parking is pay and display, £4.50 for the day, - be sure to bring change.
There is a public toilet there and usually a van doing drinks and snacks.
