Oxford Green Belt Walk
Sunday, 29 April 2018
Start time: 9:30
Moderate 17 miles / 27.4 km
This year we are planning to walk the 50 mile Oxford Green Belt Way in three sections. This will be somewhat of a challenge for us, but there has never been a better time to appreciate the green spaces around Oxford! The stages will be linear, with the second and third to be arranged over the course of the summer (see website). We would love it if anyone wanted to join us for any of the sections, or indeed the whole thing. The first stage takes us up onto Shotover Plain, then through the villages of Horspath, Garsington and Toot Baldon, with some unusual views of Oxford along the way. We pass through the grounds of Newnham House and skirt the Culham Science centre to reach the river Thames above Abingdon. Crossing at the lock, we then follow the river on the opposite bank as far as Lower Radley, finishing at Radley Station. Should you wish to, there could be opportunities to drop out and pick up transport back to Oxford from Newnham Courtenay (7.5 miles, X40 bus) or Abingdon (13.5 miles, X3 or X13 bus). Please note that in this instance, availability of buses and arrival times at these points cannot be guaranteed by the walk leaders. Bring packed lunch.
